SUMMARY OF EVENTS

Arthur Porter was illegally arrested and has been detained in La Joya prison in Panama for over 1 year without any medical treatment or hearing.
The law states that the country requesting extradition of a person has 60 days to submit evidence to show that the person in question must be extradited to stand trial. 60 days came and went.
It has now been over 400 days and still Canada has shown no evidence? And Arthur is still there?! Why hasn’t Panama abided by the law and released him? Why has Canada seemingly halted the process they began? Why has an innocent man been locked up and denied his Human Rights? Since when has it become guilty until proven innocent?

Since May 2013, Dr. Arthur Porter has suffered countless injustices that are keeping him illegally locked up in one of the worlds most notoriously dangerous prisons without allowing for the medical care that he urgently needs. He currently remains at La Joya prison in Panama.
La Joya is a prison in Panama City, Republic of Panama. The facility is overcrowded and repeatedly accused of systematic abuses against its population. It has been called one of the world’s most notoriously dangerous prisons. Clean drinking water is sometimes not provided for days. Arthur Porter and other inmates catch rain water when they can. In January 2013, Arthur Porter was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer with metastasis on the liver, bones, and lymph nodes. He has an oxygen tank that he uses to help him breathe. He began chemotherapy and radiation treatments immediately after diagnosis. He was scheduled to begin his second round of radiation treatment June 4th, 2013. However, he was illegally arrested on May 27th, 2013 and has not been allowed medical care since.

Although the press has been given documents that shed light on the current situation, the documents never seem to get printed in their entirety or sometimes not at all. On this site, maintained by the Porter family, we will provide you with the documents and our knowledge of what has happened so far, in order to ensure the public is fully informed. What is happening is wrong. What the family is going through is terrible. And, most importantly, what Arthur Porter is being put through is a violation of his human rights. Put simply, it is unjust.
This story is just not about Arthur Porter. We MUST hold the system accountable. This story is about all of us.
Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. The media, Canada, and Panama are acting like Judge, Jury and Executioner.
